We strive to utilize lighting in unique and creative ways in order to enhance and capture the spirit of a setting.
Moonlighting was established in 1992, with the intent to create unique outdoor lighting solutions for residential and commercial landscapes.
Moonlighting Landscape Lighting Systems is located in Charleston, South Carolina — an historic city famous for its beautiful gardens and majestic homes. For 30 years, Moonlighting has been illuminating Charleston's most beautiful homes, gardens, historic venues, and public places. Over the past three decades, our client list has grown to more than 1,800, but our focus remains the same — to utilize lighting in unique and creative ways in order to enhance and capture the spirit of a setting.

How much will my landscape lighting system cost?Every landscape is unique. Our lighting designs are custom designed to your landscape and tailored to your needs. Several aspects of a lighting design can affect the overall cost such as fixture material, degree of difficulty in the installation, etc. Landscape lighting can always be installed in phases to accommodate a particular budget.
-
How long will LED lamps last?LED lamps are typically rated for a 50,000-hour lifespan.
-
If I have LED lamps, why do I need regular maintenance?Even with LED lamps, we strongly encourage regular maintenance of your landscape lighting system. With aggressive growing seasons in Charleston, regular pruning for optimal lighting effects is strongly encouraged. As landscapes mature and grow, fixtures may require periodic placement adjustments. Landscape lighting fixtures may also require aiming adjustments, regular cleaning, tree wiring inspections, etc. Moonlighting has a full-service maintenance division dedicated to keep your landscape lighting systems as pristine as the day it was installed. We can tailor a maintenance program that best suits your needs.
-
What types of fixtures do you use? With the harsh, humid, and corrosive environment that the lowcountry offers, we specify products that are designed to last. Our fixture options comprised of copper and brass will not break-down or corrode over time, thus protecting your investment and providing you a landscape lighting system that you can rely on for many years.
-
Do you offer evening demonstrations? We do not offer evening demonstrations. With over 25 years of award-winning landscape lighting designs, we can confidently deliver a design that best suits your landscape. Moonlighting also staffs the only AOLP (Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals) certified Landscape Lighting designer in the state of South Carolina. In our design process, you will personally meet with one of our experienced lighting designers to discuss every detail of your project. Our lighting designer will then generate a custom lighting plan along with a detailed proposal.
-
Will you travel for design consultation and installation? We would be happy to discuss your project outside the greater Charleston-area. We travel quite often for design consultation services and installations. In the past we have traveled to the Bahamas on several occasions and gone as far as Maine, California, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, etc.
The future of landscape lighting is powered by vision. Visions are powered by people.
In January of 2025, after almost 15 years with the company, Matt purchased Moonlighting from Mike Rollins and now serves as President. Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Lander University. One of his favorite parts of the job is discovering where each design takes him. Whether it’s a quaint downtown garden, a private residence, or a commercial space — being a part of transforming a daytime space into an amazing nighttime space is one of the most rewarding parts of the job. Matt is one of two Certified Outdoor Lighting Designers in the state of South Carolina, recognized by the AOLP. Matt has previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the AOLP and is currently Co-Chairman of the COLD committee.
